The weather is hot and the humidity is high. If you are outside for any length of time, it is miserable to do any work. August of this year may not be a typical August, but for some creatures August signals that it is time to get ready for winter.
For many years, I have noticed that customers have come into the store looking for mousetraps during the month of August. The mice are beginning to look for a winter home and it may be in your house or your garage. Now is the time to get your home ready for the invasion of mice.
Most people hate to use mousetraps in their home. It may be that they don’t like setting the traps because some times the trap will snap while the trap is being placed. The number 1 reason people hate the traps is that people hate to deal with the dead mice. Regular readers of the column know that that the easiest way to keep mice out of your home is to use a product called Mouse Magic.
Mouse Magic is a product that looks like a large tea bag. Inside the bag is a carrier that is infused with a combination of mint oils. Mice hate the smell of mint. If you place the Mouse Magic bags around your home, the mice won’t come into your home. It is a little bit more complicated than just randomly placing the bags in your home. You really need to think like a mouse. Mice will look for places to come into your home. They may follow the gas or oil pipe into your home. They may come in along the edge of the garage door. They may come into the cellar through the bulkhead. Once you figure out where the mice may come into your home, you place one of the Mouse Magic bags in that area. If you have the gas or oil pipe coming into your home, place one of the bags under the pipe as it enters inside your home. You could place a bag at the top of the bulkhead stairs. You could place a bag on either side of the inside of the garage door. The important thing is to place the bags inside. As the mice try to enter your home, they will smell the mint and they won’t enter your home at those entry points. Each Mouse Magic bag will slowly release it scent for 30 to 45 days. If you replace the bags every 30 to 45 days, you will keep the mice at bay. If you do this from now to mid December, you will keep the mice outside. By mid December, the mice will have found a home for the winter and it won’t be in your home.
Many people have told me that mice will get into their garage or storage shed and the mice will eat the wiring on motorcycles, ATVs, lawn mowers, snow blowers etc. If you put the Mouse Magic bags under the cover or cowlings of these machines, the mice will stay away from these items. Just replace the bags every 30 to 45 days. Mice can also get into your car and cause major damage to the wiring. Place a packet under the hood and replace it every 30 to 45 days to protect your vehicle for damage by the mice. If you have a summer home, place the packets inside when you close up the home for the winter.
There are so many uses for this product to keep mice away. The key to success is to place the bags where mice will try to come in and to replace the bags every 30 to 45 days. We have sold the Mouse Magic for many years at our store and we have had so many success stories from people who have finally kept the mice out of their home. Now is the time to start placing the bags in your home. By starting now, the mice will learn that your home smells like mint and they will not come into your home.
Well, that’s all for this week. I’ll talk to you again next week.
